The Art and Science of Wildlife Tracking; October 21 & 22

October 21, 2016 @ 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

varies

Become a Nature Detective through this two-day wildlife tracking workshop! Wildlife trackers piece together clues left behind in the environment to gain a richer picture of the variety of animals using a habitat and read the story of their behavior. At the workshop, you’ll become familiar with common local wildlife species, learn basic track and sign identification, avoid the pitfalls of perception, learn how to distinguish between mountain lion and domestic dog tracks (which are confused more often than not), and more.

The course is a collaboration with San Diego Audubon, and will be taught by SDAS Volunteer and Operations Coordinator/Naturalist, Jill Cooper. Jill is a trained biologist who has been tracking wildlife for over 10 years.

Day 1, Friday, October 21 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, is an in-class session at the BVAS Nature Center (2202 South Coast Hwy). Day 2, Saturday, October 22 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, is a field day at Daley Ranch (exact location TBD).

Prices are $40 for students and limited income, $60 for San Diego Audubon or BVAS members, and $80 for general public. Please register at: http://www.sandiegoaudubon.org/events/workshops  or email cooper@sandiegoaudubon.org.  BVAS contact: Natalie Shapiro: buenavistanature@gmail.com
