Our first pelagic trip of the season goes to the farthest reaches of San Diego County waters, the 30-mile bank. Here we look for seabirds rarely seen in San Diego County, including Black-footed Albatross, Ashy Storm-petrels, South Polar Skua, and Scripp’s Murrelet. Other likely species include Pink-footed and Sooty Shearwaters, Parasitic and Pomarine Jaegers, Black Storm-petrels, Cassin’s and Rhinoceros Auklets, and Sabine’s Gull.
